Falling out of love

I am so happy to have found this forum and I hope it can help me get back to my giddy early iPad user days. Got my iPad as a gift and while I had a bit of a rocky start due to having set a new AppleID when I forgot I already had one from my iPod but I struggled through that and was starting to really love my iPad and the many new apps that I had downloaded. Suddenly last week when a friend tried to help me download iBooks and some other iTunes apps my device suddenly stopped letting me download anything. I found this site trying to find help on stopping "waiting" apps and hope that someone somewhere can help me. Getting to an Apple store isn't easy for me but I'm afraid that is my next option.
