Basically you have to 'rip' your DVD on a PC or Mac and then transfer the ripped file to the iPad, usually using iTunes and sync'ing the DVD. The 'problem' is that the iPad has specific requirements in terms of the format of the ripped DVD that it can play. However, there are *lots* of tools out there that can do this - you sound as though you have one for your PC and that would almost certainly be able to produce the format for the iPad too. But, without knowing the precise DVD ripping tool that you're using it's difficult to be more specific.
I would advise you Google 'rip DVD iPad' and you'll see lots of hits for the various tools that are available. If the tool that your currently using on your PC is listed, then you'll be able to get help from that website on how to configure your software to produce the appropriate format video file.
If you have further problems, don't hesitate to post back and let us know the software that you're currently using and we can possibly offer more precise advice.
Use Handbrake for ripping and converting, as it's good and best of all free.
Also look at AirVideo which will convert and stream films from your harddrive wirelessly. Saves a lot of space as normal films are around 750mb.
