eddieg is correct but it is a shame because although my iPad 3 has an excellent camera and resolution, if the lighting conditions aren't right, the pictures come out grainy
May be someone on the forum knows of a workaround.

Even the new iPod got a flash for the camera. There's no technical reason why we can't have a flash on the iPad. It's simply a matter of Apple not wanting to put one in.

Thanks scifan57, my sentiments exactly. Bought my wife a new iPod for Christmas so will use that for now. Hope springs eternal, ha, ha!
