Force an update

Upon boot, my system told me there was an iTunes update which I've done. But, after it's complete and I plug in the ipad 2 or the ipod touch, I'm not told there's an update. Other than the obvious 'check for updates' how can I force the OS 5 update? Or, do I just have to wait for it to appear when it feels like?

The ios 5 is not out yet but will most likely to hit a 6pm uk time so later on today.

My bad. I confused the itunes update (date) for the ios 5 update (date). I am a day off.
Thanks for setting me straight.
