Forcing standard def in youtube

I think iPad Youtube app is using highest definition youtube videos by default. My dsl wifi connection doesn't provide enough bandwidth for this so videos take far too long to load. When I watch a video with no HD available it loads and plays fine. Is there a way to force youtube to play videos in SD only? Or is there an app that can do this for me? It seems silly that YouTube is pretty much unavailable to me because I can't change this one simple option.
