Garageband and importing from itunes

Hi folks, have looked around but can't see a definitive answer to my problem.
I'm trying to import a guitar track that my friend created with amplitube into GarageBand so that I can put drums etc onto it.
It plays fine in iTunes on the ipad2 but when I go to GarageBand and 'import from itunes' it doesn't see anything.
Am I being thick?

I've tried importing songs from iTunes to no avail. I believe GarageBand will only recognize very specific formats (WAV, AIFF, CAF that are 44.1 kHz and 16 bit). I've tried with these specs - and still unsuccessful going from a PC to iPad 2 GarageBand. I've been searching a lot on Google. Many people with the same issue, but no resolution. Mega-frustrating!
