Groove Coaster is a really cool music game for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch that represents the latest project from Reisuke Ishida, the creator of the internationally award-winning Space Invaders Infinity Gene. Although Groove Coaster certainly shares some similarities with that game, it adds intuitive, one-finger controls and a joyful sense of twisting, turning exhilaration for the player.
Gameplay entails players following their in-game avatar on a high-speed journey along a fantastical 3D rollercoaster track. Carefully timed taps, flicks, swipes and other interactions with approaching targets unleash a variety of lush audiovisual effects, creating a layered symphony of sound. Each stage in Groove Coaster has been designed to represent the feel of each song. The game also features a number of elements that mature and develop as the player progresses through the game, such as new player avatars, in-game skin designs, and much more, which can all be unlocked via extended play. Groove Coaster even has a special stage, called The Beginning, which develops differently for each player, and which can also be changed according to how many friends you add to the game, thus rewarding interaction.
Music is of course a core part of the game, and the soundtrack has been compiled with the aim of appealing to the widest audience possible, including rock, pop, hip-hop and techno. An original soundtrack has also been released on iTunes at the same time as the game.
