I've owned an iPad2 for a year. I'm also part of an Apple household. We own every Apple product. I joined this site to get info and ideas on how to make the most of my iPad. My very first question as a new member is: Is it normal for my Face Time to be so grainy looking?

Hi there--yes, it is normal for FaceTime to be grainy, but clear enough to see the person. The iPad 2 camera specs has less than 1 MP, with the front camera only having 0.3 MP. See this: iPad 2 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The better the lighting, the better the image will look.with proper lighting, even the 0.3 megapixel camera image looks pretty good.
