What's new

Half my 16GB storage gone with nothing on it.

I have about nine photos and about five PDF files on it, that's it. What gives? I look on my iPad but cannot see anything that would cause that. I don't see any way to decipher where all these ghost files are. Help would be appreciated. Thank you.

The iOS and the included apps take up spate as do the 36 apps you have installed. How much space do your apps use? A fresh out of the box 16GB iPad 2 has about 13.8 GB free storage.

I recently got my ipad 2 and wanted to clean it out like I keep the rest of my electronics nice and clutter free. So I Binged and Googled and came up with a program called PhoneClean by Imobie. You just install it on your Mac, PC or laptop, then connect your iphone ipad or ipod and let it do it's thing. Best of all, it's free! Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will give it a try. It seems that what my iPad shows as used and available space is accurate, but it's what iTunes shows as used and available that seems at odds. It is there that shows so much space used for photos and videos, even though there are next to none on the iPad. It is the horizontal bar across the page showing apps, photos and video space usage that is confusing me. I certainly understand that apps take up a fair bit of capacity and will pare them down if and when the time comes.
