Hello. Issue with iBooks categories

Hi new gal here

I was viewing the top charts menu section at bottom of IBooks store. The categories button disappeared and left me stuck in the last category I was viewing. iPad2 iOS 5.1. The button used to be located at top next to Library button. Now it's gone. Have shutdown and restarted iPad. Problem still there.

Does anyone have suggestions?

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

When an app behaves strangely it is best to close it completely and then relaunch it. From the home screen do the four finger swipe up or double press the home button to reveal your multi task bar. These are all the apps that you have opened at one time. Long press the app until it jiggles and a red minus sign will appear above it. Press the minus sign, this will close the app, not delete it, now press the home button to return to your screen. It's also a good idea to close all these apps, as it helps the iPad run smoothly. Let us know if this fixes it.

Hi Leelai,

Thank you for welcoming me to the Forums. Unfortunately closing the iBook app and relaunching did not resolve the issue. Before I posted I searched for similar issues though none were found.

I was able to find a similar issue on an Apple Support community but there was no resolution.

I had posted a new thread yesterday for an issue with a different app.

Thank you for the other links. I read the Forum rules.

Still learning...

Hi. Thank you for the response. I responded, though now realized I may have responded directly, not to the thread..

Closing completely and relaunching the iBook app does not resolve the issue. I had previously searched for similar issues, I did not find any on this forum site. There was a post on an Apple community support site, though there was no resolution to the issue for the last couple weeks.

Thank you again for welcoming me and responding.

The next steps to clear an issue are a restart and reset. The reset I speak of here is akin to rebooting a computer and nothing will change on your iPad

Press and hold the power off button, the one at the top right. You will see a slide appear to power off, slide this and the screen will go dark and a Whirly will appear. When the Whirly disappears your iPad is now off. Press the power button again until the Apple logo appears, this will take a few seconds and your iPad will restart. You should restart your iPad occasionally also as it will keep it running well. Now see if it is operating. If not a reset is in order.

Hold the power off button and the home button simultaneously, keep holding them in and you will see the power off slide appear and disappear, wait until you see the Apple logo appear before releasing the buttons. It will take a little longer for your iPad to start.

Try these steps and let us know how you go. Good luck!

Hi. I've tried both methods. The reset option is a new to me and interesting. What does it do that is different from just restarting? Unfortunately neither resolved the issue w/ iBooks. Earlier this week there was an app update to iBooks, I was hoping it would fix the issue but it did not.

I had posted another thread about a different issue. I had not received a response to that thread. These methods I've tried to resolve the iBooks issue did not resolve that one either w/ the Music app.

Thank you again for trying to help me.

Best regards,
January

I can't replicate the problem that you are experiencing. My categories button does not disappear.

Have you tried uninstalling the iBooks app and then reinstalling it? Sometimes a "fresh" version of the app solves the problem.

Unfortunately, that's all I've got, sorry.

Marilyn

P.S. The reset is Apple's word for a reboot. It's the same as a reboot on the computer.

Hi! I just wanted to tell you that the issue is resolved. My categories button is back and I can view different categories again

Hurray! Glad to hear that everything is fixed.

And, thanks for providing the update. Always glad to hear back - especially on success stories.
