Hello, I'm new here, I was wondering if you could help me with a problem. I'm trying to jailbreak my iPad 2 5.0.1 using absinthe and eveything works fine untill an error window pops up. It says this: "the attached device has a backup password set. You need to disable the backup password in ITunes before you can continue. Start iTunes, remove the backup password, and start this program again"

I cannot figure out how to remove the backup password. Could someone run me through this? Thank you

All I need to do is figure out how to uncheck that little box next to "change password" but it won't let me. Surely someone must know how to do this?

Try going to the apple iPad discussion thread, then posting your question in the iPad hacking section. You might get more answers that way.

I don't use backup encryption myself. However, you probably need to authenticate with iTunes before you can remove the password, otherwise it would not be secure at all.
So you can't just untick the box, but you probably will be able to after you change the password. I'm not sure if you can change it to blank and that will clear it, but try that, and if not, change it to a new value that you will not forget. Then see if it will let you untick the box. If not, reboot. The one thread I read on this said that after the password was changed and they rebooted, it then allowed them to untick the box.

Thank you for all of your responses, I'm sure they will be helpful in finding my answer. Sorry if I seemed rude before, I was frustrated.
Cheers

I had exactly the same problem. No password set during backup etc...

exchange password didn't work, 1234, 0000, 9999 didn't work, current Itune password didn't work as well.

:)I solved by google search "How to Disable Backup Password in iTunes", and get suggestions.:)

To disable my iTunes backup password when I met prompt:

"The attached device has a backup password set. You need to disable the backup password in iTunes before you can continue. Start iTunes, remove the backup password and start this Program again".

I got tool "iPhone Backup Unlocker" to help me with its "Brute-force" Attack mode to remove backup password in iTunes.
