Help needed :-(

Hi folks,

I really hope you can help me!

I bought an iPad 1st generation, 16 gig wi-fi 2nd hand in January of this year.

When I bought it, it was working fine, and to be frank I didn't use it much for the following month.
Then a problem developed...

The screen started to "jump", with pages opening and closing.

I effected a "restore" and cleared all apps.

I've also polished the screen and it is completely clean.

I tried it again last night, and while it works ok sometimes (i.e. last night I watched a full film), the glitching then returns.

I want to sell it but want to fix it before I do..

I did ring one repair centre who asked me to check the headphone socket for any discolouration, of which there is none.

Other steps I have taken are those that I have read online, raising the brightness, turning off location settings etc.

So... can any of ye help??

Many thanks :o

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

What do you mean - the screen started to jump, when was this? What app were you using? And pages opening and closing?
I don't understand the opening part but was your app crashing back to the home screen?
And how did you watch this movie? If it was streamed, this would be more about your internet connection rather than the iPad.
Let us know and we can get a better idea on what is happening.

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

Hi leelai, thanks so much for your reply.

Apologies for not being clear.

The first time it happened was when I had the device a number of weeks.

I opened angry birds and the game worked for about 10 mins and then the screen started to respond as if I was maximising/minimising with my fingers.,, then the game froze and the device became completely non-responsive.

Another time, while on facebook, the device opened the menu itself and started to scroll down through the options.

The other night, I streamed a movie over youtube and it was fine. However, when I opened other vids on youtube, the ipad again reacted as if i was touching the screen, i.e. opening and closing pages and then the device will not be responsive to any touch by me.

The only way to change the screen is by pressing the home button and the power button.

I have carried out a complete restore and removed all apps and started over, to no avail.

The best way of describing it is basically, the device begins to open and close apps, open menus etc.. without any touching to the screen.

Does that describe the problem any clearer? I hope so.

Many thanks :o
