The best way to jail break an iPad today is using iOS 5.1.1 and the steps in this tutorial here: http://www.ipadforums.net/showthread.php?t=77390

So, if you aren't, may I suggest you upgrade to iOS 5.1.1. Then, it's a relatively simple process to jail break.
