Hi I have just registered as a new member on this forum.
I havnt yet got a ipad but would like to purchase the new ipad.
I have a question.
iPad with Wi-Fi + Cellular 16GB or iPad with Wi-Fi 16GB ?

I intend to use the ipad at home 90% of the time but on occation
may want to use it away from a Wi-Fi hotspot. I am not interested in
signing up to any form of contract. I do use my mobile phone for internet
outside the home on 3g. Is it possible to create a hotspot on my phone and
connect to the internet that way with the ipad. I guess that would mean
the cellular option?

Hi there Jodie and welcome.

It is probably best for you to contact your mobile supplier to see if you can tether your phone with your iPad however, I have a wifi only ipad and I use a mifi on PAYG to provide me with a mobile hotspot which I only pay for when I use it......you might want to look into this as well.

There is lots of good advice and info on here plus plenty of members all too willing to help with any problems.

Remember, search is your friend. If you have a phone capable of creating a wifi hotspot, a wifi only iPad will detect the wifi signal broadcast by the phone and be able to connect with the Internet. A wifi + cellular iPad is essential only if there is no other way of connecting to the Internet.
Another advantage of the wifi + cellular iPad is that it has GPS capability, which can function whether or not you have a cellular data plan for the iPad.

I have now ordered a new ipad from John Lewis. They give 2 years warranty.

Went for the 16gig Wi-Fi as I can create hotspot on my phone.
