What is "home sharing". I see a setting for this in settings under video.

What is "home sharing". I see a setting for this in settings under video.

It allows you to share iTunes media amongst iOS devices on the same wifi network.

For example music stored in iTunes on a desktop in your home can be shared out to an apple tv, iPad, iPhone, or other apple device. It allows you to use one device to host the media and the others to access it.

ICloud has the ability to render this function irrelevant as the cloud can be host to all your media if you are willing to pay for the required storage above 5GB. The benefit being all your devices can access the data, they don't have to be on the same network as home sharing requires, and Apple backs the data up so it is never at risk of being lost due to a hardware failure on your end or a disaster where your devices are lost, stolen, or otherwise destroyed.
