AdmiralAdama said:A great deal has been written about "heat issues" related to iPad 3. The most common complaint involves the lower-left corner (in portrait with home-button at the bottom).
It is odd that your device is feeling warm to you when it hasn't been in use. That's why I asked about battery discharge.
If there's an Apple Store in your community it's worth your while to book an appointment at the Genius Bar. A technician will see you and run a diagnostic on your device. Just make sure you back up your iPad before going to the appointment.
Please let the forum know how the issue is resolved.

AdmiralAdama said:You have an iPad 3 so your 1 year warranty remains in force. As KevinJS noted making an appointment (by phone or on-line) ensures you're served promptly when you arrive. I've dealt with the Genius Bar to resolve iPhone and iPad issues and have always left satisfied.
