Hi, I have just purchased an IPAD 3, there is nothing on the box to say if it is an version 3. How can I tell if I haven't been sold the old version

The easiest way is to use the apple web site "support" page. First find your serial number from you box or from "settings==>general==>Serial Number". Then, click on "Check Your Service & Support Coverage" and enter your serial number.

There is a model number on the back of your iPad, just google the number.
