Is there an app or a way to convert docs or PDFs into audio files to listen to on iPad?

Speak it! Seems to be the best. You can find more if you search text to speech.

Speaking it defeats the purpose. I want to convert text to audio so I can listen to it while driving or working

It seems to do exactly what you ask for. Search text to speech and it's the first option in best sellers. It's called Speak It! Text to speech, not speaking it which might be something different.

Edit: after reading reviews, it might not be as good as advertised. You can try finding a program on your computer to do it, then put it into iTunes as an mp3 or aac file and transfer to iPad. Probably not best advice, but you can most likely find better programs for much cheaper than app store prices.

Darn already dl it. But thanks. Only a few dollars. Wish I could try more apps before purchasing them. U never know if the app will do what u want it to

I hear ya. Android let's you get a refund before a creation amount of time but it's usually not enough. Apple gives courtesy refunds, but if you start taking advantage of it, they will stop. Best used on big ticket items if you really need to do it.
