How do you put films on your ipad?

Kinda new to all this..
How do you put films onto your iPad? Either ones you already have on DVD? Or to download? Preferably not from iTunes??

I use Goodplayer which has a download browser and also I think you can share it on the network and then connect from your computer and copy files over.
