AppleInsider reports today that Apple has updated its official Apple.com website with images that have been especially enhanced for viewing on the new iPad’s Retina display. And the best thing about it? You don’t have to wait until you get your new iPad on Friday to view the images at their Retina-enhancing best, thanks to a work-around that was first highlighted by Japanese Apple site, Macotakara. AppleInsider explains that although it was previously thought that you needed to have HiDPI resolutions on a Mac in order to be able to view the images ahead of the iPad launch, you can actually view them in Safari on either a Mac or PC, simply by going to Preferences>Advanced in Safari, ticking the “Show Develop menu in menu bar†option, then right clicking on Apple.com and selecting “Inspect Elementâ€, and then the “Console†option over on the right. Past the following into the console, then press return:

AC.ImageReplacer._devicePixelRatio = 2
new AC.ImageReplacer()

“klass†should then appear on the console, and you can go ahead and close the “Inspect Element†menu. Now go to View, and select Zoom In. You should then be able to see the Retina-display enhanced graphics as they were intended to be viewed on the new iPad. You really can notice the difference, it’s pretty impressive, to say the least.
