I am having trouble registering my kindle app - I can't seem to figure out where to go to view books or where to get to that screen.......any suggestions?

You need to register on the Amazon - Kindle site. Have a look here and this will tell you everything you need to know

If you already have an Amazon account.
You'll need to purchase a Kindle book on the Amazon.com site before anything will show up on the Archive page so that you can download it.
If you visit amazon.com/ipadkindlestore in Safari on the iPad it will take you to a special Amazon page designed just for the iPad. Sign in, then Add it to the Home Screen (it should prompt you to do this). You'll end up with a nice icon that you can move next to the Kindle app; a direct link for you future shopping convenience.
