We have mpeg video cameras at a vacation home that upload 5 second .mp4 video clips to a file-browsing web site when they detect motion.

A Windows 7 PC and Android phones play these videos by clicking on them. On iPad, you get a round sybmol with a triangle and a line across the triangle.

Is there a way for an iPad to browse and play these video clips directly off of the web site. No desire to import them into iTunes or some other processing to view them.

The website probably uses flash for their video-player, so you could try iSwifter. It is an app, which connects to a browser running on a remote server, which does support flash. So it will be a little slower then a browser running directly on the iPad, but it will work. iSwifter also has a time-trial version, so you can test the full app before buying.
