I get a message that says " The network connection could not be established " for both devices. I downloded the new Itunes just fine. My internet works just fine. I have never had problems updating the software before. What do I do, I am lost!!! I originally thought the server was just too busy but we should be over that now. Thanks for any help I can get.

I think the non-techie folks just woke up to the new software update. Give it a day and I suspect that the upgrade will go smoothly.

Go to settings and then General and then software update. I just did it tonight. I didn't work the first time but it did the second

I received an error message until about 6:30 am this morning, then the upgrade finally launched. Roughly 20 minutes from start to finish. Figured there was considerable traffic, and just kept trying.

iOS 5.1 download failure is happen via phone & iTunes, tagging along for a resolution. if it's network traffic, is this an akamai thing?

UPDATE: I love it, 5 min after posting this I get a connection and the payload is on it's way down. So folks with this issue, don't fight it, just wait :)

Peace Out!

Dang it....I still cant update to 5.1 today!!!!

Just updated my iPad2 without problem.
My iPhone3GS first claimed not to have an internet connection. Furth I was later on told there would not be sufficient space.
After deleting some apps and having 1GB available it is right now installing.

I upgraded without hiccup OTA over two nights:

iPad 2, 15 mins.
iPad 1, started and went to bed, was finished when I woke.
iPhone 4S, 15 mins.
Touch 4, 30 mins.

Well I am glad for everybody, but I still have no luck with Ipad, Iphone on Itunes and OTA. What the????

Hi Volgtage--when you try to update with itunes with direct connection to PC using USB cable--have you turned off your virus protection? Make sure that is turned off. Try that.

iOS 5 took 4 days before the servers finally quit having load issues. This is only the end of the first 48 hours. It could very well take another 48 hours to fully clear.

Yep I have plenty of memory on both devices and I have my protection turned off..thanks for the ideas though. Maybe it is just still busy like Skull said, I cant imagine both devices not updating on Itunes AND OTA.

I spent 2 days beating my head against the wall also on this update.

As it turns out I recently got a new router and the internal firewall was not allowing me to connect directly to Apples servers using iTunes on my iMac, nor my iPhone 4S, nor iPad 2. I have since directly connected the iMac to the internet, bypassing the wireless router, and just finished installing both through iTunes.

Hope this helps.
