It's working fine but the silver casing has moved slightly. The on / off button doesn't operate? Any idea.

Just a suggestion but other Members who have dropped their iPads and broken their screens have found that Apple is operating a completely unofficial, not acknowledged, goodwill once-only-in-a-lifetime, exchange - even when the broken screen was in no way Apple's fault or responsibility.

You might try returning it to an Apple Store and see if they'd swap it. But - and I emphasise - this appears to be a goodwill move on Apple's part and seems to be at the descretion of the individual stores. Some Members have reported no trouble, others have had to ask to speak to the Manager while others had to try another store. But, so far, we've not heard of a single Member who, in the end, has been refused an exchange. So take it back, explain - in your humblest and most polite voice - what happened and see if it will work for you.

Let us know how you get on....

Will try but do not think there is an Apple store in Dubai. I am writing from the same iPad but just can't shut it !!

You can set Autolock so that it will shut down automatically after a few minutes of inactivity. You can switch it on again by pressing the Home button or the Mute button.

The need to repair it is going to going to crop up eventually. At some point he will need to shut it down, or do a reset, and be out of options.

@aty, If you can't get the exchange, the safest option is to find a local repair shop, or send it into Apple for repair. I wish I could say this is cheap, but most likely it is going to cost a fair amount.

If you are tech repair savvy, and a risk taker, you could visit ifixit.com and see what you can dig up there in the way of repair procedures and finding parts. That will void what is left of your hardware warrantee, of course. Not that the warrantee is of much value after you've already damaged it.

Ouch. My iPod touch fell in the water once. the pain!! ahh...the pain.

You must be experiencing the same thing right now. Think twice before try to pry open the iPad to see if you can fix it. that thing is really not meant to be opened by non professionals like us with non professional tools.
