I keep losing movie access

Movie icon works for a while and then if I press it the screen goes black. Can someone help. I have enough space on the pad for them. Videos won't play either

Turn the iPad completely off by pressing and holding the Power button until the slider control appears. Powering down and then up again allows the iPad to do some 'housekeeping' and cures these sorts of problems.
