iBooks for the Air 2

Just upgraded to the Air 2 and decided not to sync as there's a lot of stuff on the old 2 that I don't want, including ebooks, mostly free ones from itunes and other book seller sites.

Unfortunately these synced unrequested and i decided to manually delete them but they're not going anywhere.
I do the delete thing and they just sit there glaring at me with a little download icon next them .
Open and they redownload immediately but I want to get rid of the pic.

If you open the iBooks App you will see a heading - All Books >. If you tap this you will see various viewing options, PDFs etc. At the bottom is a slider to hide all iCloud books.
