Intro and new to iPad - could use some help on accessories and apps purdy please

I just ordered a refurbed iPad3 16gb wifi
I have no experience with an iPad at all, so if you have any good tips for me, I'd really appreciate it.

Also - what about the smart cover vs the smart case? Which is better?

And apps - anyone have any favorites to recommend? I'm a writer so writing apps will be helpful.
Also games - like - I see they have words with friends - can you use that app to play with someone on fb?
What other apps do I need?

Smart Cover, yes. Apps? IAWriter.

If you will be holding the iPad in your hands for any amount of time at all, shun the whole wraparound smart case.

I have the Smart Cover on both my iPads with a snap on clear back cover....wouldn't have it any other way, but that's just me.
Yes you can play Words with Friends with FB
As for good apps, Dropbox - great for transferring info from your pad to your pc and vice versa.
Evernote.....great note taking app
Download Appshopper it's another way to browse for apps. You can also input a wish list and when an app comes on sale it will alert you. A great way to get paid apps free.
And as for games, it's really a personal choice, but look here

I've never had an iPad (or any of the "i" products) and I just can't wait to have it in my hands! (It should arrive Thursday).
I'm a little anxious about these "apps" as I've never dealt with them and there are SOOO many! It would take a year to go through the whole list, lol. Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it

I was bamboozled by all the apps available too, and you can spend quite a bit checking them all out......but as a need arrived, I just did a search here to find out what everyone else was using to help make my decisions. It's really the best way to go. If you do need more help just let us know.

I think I'm doing something wrong here in the search function. When I put in a search query - for instance iPad cover vs case (then tried just cover vs case, smart cover, etc etc) I get a ton of discussions with the subject of things like "What game are you playing now" or "Who still has a gen 1?" things that aren't related to my search at all.
I hate to be so helpless but I must be doing something wrong!
