Introducing myself

Greetings All. I am a fairly new convert to Mac products. Have had my iMac a few months now and am loving it. Still learning all it can do. Through generous friends, I now find myself the owner of this lovely ipad2. Since I am flat on my back today sick, it seemed the perfect opportunity to download some apps and learn how to use this wonderful gift. It will be a way to always have my bible with me - got that app! - keep up with weather (avid gardener), play an occasional game during downtime, look up new recipes (always looking for new gluten free and raw ones) and Skype friends and family when I am away from the computer. Only problem I have encountered so far is not having sound on this thing...except for its own sounds - like the typing sounds. I'll be heading over to find a discussion about that now. Thanks to whoever started this forum.

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

Regarding your sound issue you haven't inadvertently turned on the mute button have you, it's the little switch just above the sound control.
Also look at the control which is found when you bring up your multi task bar. Do the 4 finger swipe up or double press the home button and you will see your multi task bar along the bottom, swipe right as far as you can go and you will see a volume control slide here. Also another place in Settings - General - Sounds. Let us know how you go.

Thanks but mute is not engaged and vol. is set. The music now plays and at times abruptly stops though the slideshow continues.

When this type of thing happens might be an idea to close the app completely and then relaunch it.
From the home screen do the four finger swipe up or double press the home button to reveal your multi task bar along the bottom. It will show all the apps that you have opened at one time or another. Long press the app until it jiggles and a red minus sign will appear above it. Press the minus sign, this will close the app, not delete it. It's also a good idea to close all these apps, as it helps the iPad run smoothly, I do mine every night. Check and see if it is operating now, let us know how you go.

Thanks it works fine now for whatever reason, but it was happening earlier tonight. Your suggestion to basically boot the app sounds like a good idea.

So I should close all apps regularly then relaunch?

I close all my apps every night, it just keeps everything running smoothly. If you ever have a problem with an app this is the first step to take.
