What's new

Introduction

Hi, My name is Doug Lees and I have just joined he iPad2 forum. My main reason for this is to gain some insight into the iPad2. I have been in the computing profession for quite a few years (since 1968) so am not alien to digital concepts but my exposure professionally has mainly been in real time computing a'la control and monitoring of remote devices and plant in real time. I have used many and varied computing devices DEC, HP, Sun, etc etc but this is my first time to use Apple products and I have to say up to now not a very happy one. My daughter bought the iPad2 for me as a gift last summer (June) but I never so much as switched it on in all that time until about a week ago. When I charged the device, the first thing I was confronted with was 'upgrade to iOS 6.1.3 which I did and with the benefit of hindsight can't help feeling this was a big mistake. Try as I might I cannot get sounds to work on the damn thing and having read all the threads I have tried absolutely everything but still a big fat nothing. The real worrying thing was that Apple (reading through the threads) appear to be aware of the problem but unless the device in question is still under warranty are completely dis interested. Now I don't want to waste my time travelling to an Apple Store to consult with their Genius only to be fobbed off hence the reason to contact the forum and investigate if there is anyone that has had a similar fault and more importantly if they had managed to find a fix. Incidentally, I have tried a hard restore through iTunes a number of times but no change.

What sounds, specifically, do you not hear [ that you are supposed to]? Are they system sounds such as keyboard clicks and notifications. Or, are they sounds from within an app such as a game? Do you have sound when you plug in some headphones?

Apologies for asking, but have you checked your Settings to see if the switch on the side is muting the iPad? Or, have you checked the icon in the multitask bar to ensure it is not muted? Do you have to sound turned up?

If we can get more specific details as what sounds you don't hear (and in what applications), we can, hopefully, help you get to the bottom of this.

Hi Marilyn, Many thanks for your message and the answer is I have no sounds whatsoever and I have checked all the usual suspects i.e. side switch, volume levels etc etc etc. there simply is no sound at all either through headsets or speakers try as I might.....nothing. I have spent a week now trying to unravel this but still nothing I really am thinking the bin is the only remaining option. everything else works as it should this really has taken the gloss off owning any more Apple products or even recommending them anywhere. I guess my only option is to go to the genius in Manchester but I am reluctant to go there to be given the brush off with it's out of warranty and then be treated with disinterest. I run my own small computer company and this is my first experience with Apple computing devices, save an iPhone, but I won't be in any hurry to increase the tally at all. Marilyn, I apologise if this seems like a bit of a rant but such is my frustration I have e-mailed Apple but their silence is deafening. Thanks again though for trying to help
