Right I want to updat to iOS 4.3.4 now I realise I will loose jb functionality but that's not an issue , now I'm away from my pc and wanting to use my girlfriends but not sync , now I have devised ba plan and want to no if the methodology behind it is sound. If I click cancel when the box saying erase or transfer purchases comes up Ghent hit update will it update the io around what's installed or does I wipe and then rely on a backup to restore settings etc otherwise leaving I as a blank device

What version of iOS do you have now? The update from 4.3.3 to 4.3.4 was simply a security fix to patch the PDF 'vulnerability' that enabled the iPad2 jail break. So, unless you're on an earlier version (than 4.3.3) there's very little reason to update iOS.

On 4.3.3 was just wondering how the update process worked really do u think it wipes it totally or is like android just updates the necessary parts of the os

1) Install iOS 4.3 2) "Jailbreak" with redsn0w 0.9.6rc8, you should see a white block in de upper left corner from your iPhone, reboot it 3) get iFunBox 4) navigate to "Raw File System" -> /System/Library/CoreServices
5) open SystemVersion.plist and remove the following lines: ReleaseType
Beta 6) Reboot the iPhone7) Activate your iPhone with iTunes
