Ipad 2 as a tv and sky+ remote

As the title says, can I somehow use my device as a tv and sky+ remote?

I've got the sky+ remote record app which is great, but its not the same.

I don't know but aren't most TV's and set top boxes IR?

You can get a cool IR dongle for the iPhone so I'd guess it works on the ipad too. Also, some new tv's can actually be controlled by wifi too!
