iPad 2 needs iOS 5 but no software updates in settings

Yes. Only after you have iOS 5 (or higher) installed on your iPad can you use the over-the-air software installation.

So, you will have to connect your iPad to iTunes and select the upgrade button. iTunes will do it's "magic" and you will then be on the latest iOS. Just know that as of today, you can only upgrade to iOS 6.0.1, which is the most current iOS approved by Apple. You can no longer put iOS 5.0.1 directly on your iPad.

Oh, and just to be on the safe side, may I suggest you do a fresh back-up before you start the upgrade ... just in case. :)

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

Good luck with that update....it's a big leap, so will take some time and is dependent on what you already have on your iPad.
Also an idea to disable your Firewall/Virus protection for the duration of the update.

I think I know the issue...do I have to connect my iPad to a computer and then open iTunes
On the computer? I was just opening iTunes on the iPad and not seeing upgrade or update.

Hello from Canada. Yes you have to connect to a computer that has the iTunes program on it.
