iPad 4 has started resetting itself whenever trying to launch an app

Yesterday afternoon my iPad 4 started doing weird stuff - I press an icon to launch an app, the device switches to it, then about a second later the screen goes black and the white Apple logo appears in the center as the iPad resets. I've reset myself, charged it overnight, still the same issue.

When I turn it on I see notifications of new emails, etc, and everything is fine until I click an icon (I've tried many of them). The app launches, about a second passes, then black with white Apple logo.

Any thoughts? Do I need to reset it to factory status and then start adding back in apps and data?

Try force closing the apps if possible.

If this doesn't help, you still can erase it and set it up again. Use iTunes. Make sure it's up to date, then connect your iPad to the computer and restore it.
