I'm afraid that without the Apple ID and password of the original owner, there is no way to activate the iPad, iOS 7 activation lock will prevent it.

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

I'm afraid Scifan is correct, without the Apple ID and password the iPad is unusable.......

The only solution is to get in touch with the previous owner.

That's exactly what we're saying. Without the Apple ID and password of the original owner , that iPad is useless. There's nothing we or anybody can do to help.

when your customer bought the iPad, he should have checked with the previous owner about the resetting to factory settings so the new owner can register it to himself using his own iTunes account, sounds like a shabby and ill planned buy here

As noted above, and those posts really do mean to say that: unfortunately your customer has already suffered a total irretrievable loss with that iPad purchase. Unless he is provided with the required ID and password, he will get no further than that message.
It's a security feature, introduced with the iOS 7.x upgrade, and it seems to be pointless to approach Apple to open up that iPad, no matter the circumstances. There was a case very recently where an elderly mother had willed her iPad to a daughter without recording the ID/password. After her death all kinds of pleadings for sympathy were made to Apple to have the iPad reset to factory settings. They refused to do that despite wide unfavourable publicity. At the same time there were comments in favour of Apple's stance expressing satisfaction that if their iPad was stolen or lost at least no one else will be able to use it. Regrettable in this case, but there it is....

thanks to all member's of this forum for giving me relevant info about ios 7.... Now it is his bad luck that the device goes into apple id mode.

You're welcome!

Just wish it was a better outcome for you and your friend

Just loathe thinking of all these people who have wasted their money because they didn't know about this new security measure....and the thought of all these iPads just being useless now. :(

While there are ways to bypass the passcode lock on an iPad (which just may be what you are referring to) there is no known way to unlock an iPad which is on IOS7 and still has the 'find my ipad' feature activated without having the Apple ID and password of the previous owner.

You are not alone with this problem and we are now seeing others also asking the same questions.

Is there a bypass for the iCloud activation procedure? Yes. How many people have access to it? Literally 5. Does it work on all devices? Only the A4 bypass has had its password encryption decrypted. If you're into cryptography, you can attempt to resolve the PGP encryption of r0bf0rdsn0w.

Well this is news!

And released on April Fools Day (yep, I did some digging) although apparently on the up and up. Very interesting!!

Do you think it will ever be released? Damn shame in many ways though!

Thanks Willerz2.......

Publicly released without the PGP encryption, for the iPhone 4 maybe (in the very distant future I'd have to say). Because the entire point of the iCloud lock is to deter thieves, publicly releasing it for free access is somewhat ethical, which is why the encryption was put into place so that only those that have that specific level of cryptographic experience will be able to get their hands on it, which is only 1 person (that I know of) that has it accessed outside of the inner circle. And if you're at that level of cryptography, more than likely you have the income to buy your devices at the MSRP on the highest storage capacity, meaning they won't be abusing it by stealing devices and such.

Will it eventually come out publicly? It's possible. The A4 bypass would come out first most likely, but that would be at the point where the iPhone 4 is not even gazed upon as a viable device on the market, meaning a year or two down the line possibly since demand/supply of the 4 will decrease and would not be a target(?) for thieves as at that point it wouldn't even be worth the trouble to steal one and sell it.

Or, on another possible note, the Chinese may be deploying hundreds of people to attempt to decrypt the entirety of r0bf0rdsn0w and release it to the public. But as history has told us, what the Chinese gets their hands on and release publicly, will most likely not be clean, i.e. Unflod as well as the Asian "AppStores".

Of course, this is all speculation and for discussion purposes only.

I would loathe to see it released although many (thieves) would be very happy about it!

And I can imagine all sorts trying to decrypt it.....it's all gobbledygook to me but I'm surprised he's released what he has.

I had to look into Unfold to see what that was all about....it's a whole other world out there on that level.

Very interesting discussion never the less and time will tell I guess! ;)
