Hi,

What is the purpose of the cache folder?

I'm using Itunes to sync folders of photos. When I select all of the folders, the sync works correctly. All the folders are downloaded to my Ipad. When, I select just one of the folders, the other folders sre erased on my ipad.
How can I choose one folder out of several to download without erasing the non selected folders?

I'm using xp sp2, a new ipad with the latest os and standard jpg pics.
If I dont select all of the folders, the non selected folders are erased.
Should I remove the unchecked folders from the download directory?
What would this do to the sync process?

When you want to add a folder on to the Camera Roll/Photos, just check that folder, Do Not uncheck any of the others that you want to keep on the iPad, if you uncheck them, then they will be deleted. This is how iTunes knows if you want these photos/folders or not. Keep, if they are checked, delete, if they are not checked. If they are checked in iTunes and you delete them on the iPad and you sync again, it will put them back on the iPad. Use iTunes to add and delete photos/folders. This also applies to music in iTunes. ITunes knows what is on the iPad and won't download all the photos/folders/songs every time, just the new ones, unless of course you uncheck them, then they will be deleted.

That aswers my question concerning the photo folders. The cache folder is used to control this process?

I have an additional question. In searching the internet for a long time for the solution to the USB port power problem with memory card readers, i found a A/C powered card reader which has been tested and found to be compatable. During the search, in one of many forums, I noticed a battery operated USB flash card reader. But, alas, I lost track of the posting. Do you know where I could search to find this item? I'm a charity photo guy and I need the Ipad to display pics during the conventions for the charity staff. I'm using the camera while they would be looking at the pics. My service is voluntary, no fees are charged.

A cache is just a scratch pad or temporary storage area for programs to use.

I'm not sure I understand what you need, but this might help. I have an eye-fi mobile card for my camera and the eye-fi app on my iPad. My photos download to my iPad soon after they are taken. One problem is that all photos go to the saved folder, so they are just added to those already there.

Thanks for trying but what I'm asking is if I empty the cache, because I know it takes up space, am I losing anything that I might need and have forgotten about, passwords or something else.

From my understanding, you can certainly delete the 'Photo Cache' but it will be re-created on your next sync - READ HERE -
