Ipad calender

I use my calendar as a diary as I work away from home, so record the days I work. I have noticed on a couple of occasions that after a some time everything has disappeared? This is very annoying, please can you tell me why this is happening?

Check settings - mail, contacts and calendars - scroll down to calendar section - sync is set to all events rather than time limited.

I've done that and thought I'd fixed it, but all my dates have gone again??
Any thing else? Before I go to the apple store
