Hi, I'm brand new to this forum and have a strange problem with my iPad. I haven't used it in a while and when I turned it on I found the message "iCloud Backup This iPad hasn't been backed up in 5 weeks. Backups happen when this iPad is plugged in, locked and connected to Wi-Fi." It has the bar underneath it that says "okay". I have plugged it in, hit okay, pressed on the box and nothing happens. I'm unable to turn it off or do anything else to it. Once by mistake I ended up with my settings page but don't know how I even got there, can't duplicate that now. Has anyone else EVER had anything as strange as this happen or have any idea what kind of animal is crawling around inside this thing. I'm at a loss. It shows a full charge and has Wi-Fi and it's driving me crazy. Thanks.

Hold down the power and Home buttons until you see the Apple Logo. Release and let it re-boot.

You should be able to access everything then.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU...................................it worked like a charm. I'm so illiterate when it comes to this I had no idea how to power the darn thing off like that.

Not a problem. I'm glad it worked. It's called a reset. I usually explain in more detail, but was in a bit of a hurry at the time.

Apple recommends a reset when the iPad can't be powered down for a normal restart. On the forum we often recommend it when a restart does not solve a problem. Not because it's likely to, but because it won't hurt anything, so it's worth a try.

You should probably browse through your iCloud settings and see if you can figure out why your backups aren't happening; or you are likely to see that warning again.

Here are some of the other things you can try when an app or the iPad is giving you problems.

----------------------------
The usual fixes:

When you have problems with an app it's a good idea to clear it from RAM.

Close/Clear the app: With the problem app closed, double tap on the Home button to get the multitask bar. Tap and hold on any icon in the bar until they jiggle, then tap the minus sign on the problem app. This will remove it from RAM and insure a clean start the next time you launch the app.

If that does not work try a restart,

Restart: Hold down the power button until the power off slider appears. Slide it off. When the iPad finishes shutting down, hold down the power button again until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends you restart the iPad at least once a month.

and then a reset if that does not work.

Reset: Hold down the power and home buttons until the Apple logo appears. The iPad will reboot. This usually takes a bit longer than a restart.

Reset All Settings: Another, somewhat more drastic thing you can do is Reset All Settings. You'll find this under Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. It won't erase any of your content, apps, or accounts; but you will have to go through most of your other settings and re-tweak them back to your liking.

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

I used to get the same message myself and once you tap okay it should just disappear. But odd things do happen at times and a reset will normally fix it as Twerppoet has said. In my case, I received this message as I had far too much on my iPad which was over the free limit that iCloud allows. A good clean out of my iPad fixed this.....I had a few thousand photos on mine which was just way too many!
