My name is Victor A Cohn, A.K.A. Vicvac. I am 70 years old and live in Huntington Beach, CA. I have been teaching seniors how to use Windows and access the internet since 2000. I bought my first iPad, a Model 2 a few years ago, and have been trying ever since to learn how to use it. Last year I bought a iPad 3. After learning nothing from the local Apple Store and an 8 session class at Cal State University Long Beach, I decided I would teach myself about the iPad as I had taught myself to use Windows. I am now in my 6th month of teaching seniors how to use their iPad that they were either given as a Gift, or thought it was so cool they just had to buy one. I need to join a forum as I am running into too many questions I cannot find answers to. An example is the recent loss of several contacts on my own iPhone and my iPad and my Windows computer. I sync the 3 devices using the iColud and everything was fine for about 1 month. Then last week, 3 contacts I use frequently just disappeared from all three devices. Today in class we got into the area of dictation in notes on a model 3. When I tried to enable the dictation in Settings>General>Keyboard, the line item for turning dictation on and off does not appear. I currently have the little microphone button on my iPad keyboard, but I have no way to turn it on or off. I know the line item was there in the keyboard area before, but it's not there know. I am running version 6.1.3 with a strong Wi-Fi signal and I am puzzled as to what is going on. I am hoping that being a member of this forum will help me get answers to some of my questions. Using Google as a source for answers to questions just isn't working anymore. Thanks, Vicvac, ... <snip-moderator edit>

Hi Victor and welcome to the Forum!

What a lovely thing you are doing in teaching others about their iPads. I will move this thread to the Help Forum where you will get a better response for your questions.
I've also noticed that you have asked your questions in other threads also, which is against our Rules as we like to keep all info to the one thread, it makes it confusing for others also to follow and these posts have now been deleted.

To access Dictation in the Notes App, tap the screen to bring up your keyboard then just tap your microphone, you will then notice another larger microphone pop up, dictate what you would like and then tap the microphone again or the keyboard icon (bottom right) you will then notice 3 little purple circles appear on the screen and then your message will then appear.

The IPad Forum is a community of members from all walks of life and from all over the world coming together to share our experiences and to help each other learn about this wonderful piece of technology the Ipad. There is a wealth of information already here in the many threads we have so doing some searches will answer most of the questions you have. If then you cannot find the answer you are seeking then by all means post your question. There are many friendly and informed members here only too willing to help you.

We also have our own App - It is a very simple app to navigate.

Hi Victor,

Welcome to the forum. From one senior to another. ;)

I too was delighted to read in your post that you hold computing and IT classes for others. That's great work.

Cheers

Richard
