Hi everyone,

I want an opinion but a positive one.

A friend of mine works his iPad when always connected to the power, ie in charging state.
I have a feeling this is harmful to the life of the iPad if not some other mechanical parts within, can you guys advice me!

Im not gonna say this is for sure the end all be all answer but its been my experience that you need to full cycle any battery every so often or the battery becomes useless. Why doesnt he use the battery power until it needs a charge?

It will not cause any harm to the iPad or its battery to leave it plugged into the charger for an extended period of time. The only thing that should be done once a month or so is to run the battery down to about 5% or less, then fully charge it. This re calibrates the battery meter so that the correct charge percentage is displayed.

The only harm likely to come from this is if he places a lot of stress on the connector/cable. Otherwise he's actually extending his battery life by not cycling it.

With that said, SicFan57 is also correct that the iPad should be run down and fully charged about once a month, to keep the battery meter calibrated. Nothing is harmed if it is not done, but it may harm your friends perception of how well his battery is holding up.

And on my 3 I can get 2 or 3 days between charges if I take it down to 20%. Granted I only get a couple of hours to use it each day (except weekends) but I'm always watching video or listening to something on it. Your friend can run it off the lifeline and check his usage or buy one of the two extended cables I've found (have one myself) to take some of the stress of sitting close to an outlet out of their day.
