Ipad POS system using ethernet

The iPad Pros support ethernet. I’m not sure if the newest iPad does. The older ones do not. To connect both ethernet and power at the same time you would need a dongle with a passthrough power port as well as the ethernet port. Read the specs on your iPad to make sure it supports ethernet, and read the specs on dongles with both lightning and ethernet ports to make sure power is passed through.

This can be a real struggle, as the iPad doesn't offer an ethernet port, but not impossible. You'll need a few adapters so the POS can properly function.

First, let me point out that the the thread is over two years old, and the original poster hadn’t been back since. Still it’s interesting subject and may still be good solution for a few people. So thank you for bringing this to the front again,.

While there were no single dongles that could power an iPad over POE at the time (that I could find), a quick search on Amazon shows that there are at least a few now. If you search for “POE to USB-C” you’ll mostly find splitter type devices that won’t proved both power and data over the USB-C port, but there are a few more expensive devices that will.
