When you click on a link to an iOS app on most sites it will usually take you to one of two places; sometimes both. One is Apple's website that give you the same info on the app as the App Store, the other is a re-direct that opens iTunes and sends you to that app's page. It's not a virus, it's all normal.
No computer is virus proof, but the iPad is very resistant and there are no reported viruses in the wild for the iPad. There are a few pieces of malware, but you would need to both jailbreak your iPad and download something from a risky source (Cydia is the official jailbreak app store, and quite safe).
