Hey there,

I think my ipad2 needs a fresh start.. since it gets stuck from time to time while i am writing an email/ playing wordfeud.
I've a jailbroken ipad2 gsm on iOS 5.1.1. I want to keep my jb if it is possible.
I still have an old back up before my jailbreak. How can I restore the old back up without upgrading to the newest iOS.
Thank you all in advance.

p.s. I've looked through for guides, but got a bit lost on this forum.. Hope you all can help me out and direct me to it.

If you have iOS 5.1.1 blobs for your device (with proper APTickets) you can re-restore to a completely fresh copy of iOS 5.1.1. If not, you can use ILEX R.A.T. to completely wipe the device (it may still have remnants of jailbreak data leftover depending on how you've modified your device), but it's the closest thing to a full restore without upgrading.

Essentially those are your two options. The iPad 2 is an A5 device and is not susceptible to the LimeRa1n exploit, so unfortunately you cannot selectively restore to iOS 6. It's either 5.1.1, 5.0.1/5.1 (if you have iOS 4.X blobs as well), or iOS 7.0.3 (latest). Consult the below few stickies as they give a bit more in-depth information.

Thank you Willerz.
I still have one question, what are APTickets? I have the blobs saved before.
And the only tweak i used was the flux, mail thingy. So i think option 1 is good for me. Only the APTickets... Can you explain to me what it is?
Thank you once again.

IT says..sorry, the baseband blob can't be found, and the redsnow said: no problem, u can solve this with an update..No need to lose your re-restore. What happens if you try to reset your device (hold both home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo)? That might bring it out of recovery mode...

And - how did you get that version of iOS 5.1.1 onto your iPad 2? If it was via the over-the-air (OTA) update, then you cannot re-restore the iPad, which may explain the issues you are having now.

I got my iOS5 not from OTA, because I've updated to 5.1.1. myself becuase I already had a jailbreak before on 4.3.5 and then I wanted to start clean so I installed 5 on it. and then jailbreak

I've now given up on re-restoring and move to installing the newest FW. It was all good untill error 21. I've tried the DFU mode since the trouble shoot of apple official stated it. So I see a big apple logo and a bar moving. I am not sure what it is doing..so i will be keep u update what happens.

Thank God I've no bricked Ipad. I'm now on the newest iOS. THank you for your help. I will delete the other post. So can you tell me what kind of iOS 7 i have now? ota ..since i've upgraded because I wanted to restore it. So i know the next time if there is a jailbreak for 7. thanks.

You can check to see which version of iOS 7 you have by going to the About tab (in the General tab of your Settings app); it'll be listed under "Version."

As you've just upgraded, you should be on the latest version of iOS, which is iOS 7.0.3.

I think I didn't rephrase my question correctly, what I meant was is my iOS 7.0.3 a version that has used OTA to upgrade or not? I have plugged in and used itunes to restore ipad and started it up as a fresh new ipad. Thank you in advance!

OTA means updating using Settings.app. If you're using iTunes, that's a restore or essentially a full or "perfect" upgrade since you wiped the device completely.

Thank you Willerz ;) this same procedure I did for my 5.1.1 so I have no idea why the re-restore didn't worked and was looking for baseband blobs. I think I am going to write to the dev team and ask about it. Thank you once again.

If the blobs were saved by Cydia, they may or may not be valid because APTickets were introduced with iOS 5.

These resources here and here are pretty descriptive and Saurik does a pretty good job explaining all the kinks.

The second link refers to iOS 6, but the background behind it is very similar if not identical to the iOS 5 scenario.
