iPad2 speaker is muted with some streaming apps

I just got an iPad 2. I have 2 streaming apps, NBC and Time Warner Cable which stream TV shows. With both of these, the headphones work, but not the speaker. Speaker works fine with other streaming apps like Pandora. Is this a bug particular to the two TV apps? Anyone else heard of this issue?
