Does anyone know why the Ipad2 is out of stock in Hong Kong? Not only in the stores but also online at the Apple Hong Kong site. Although the stores in many countries in Asia are out of stock, most online stores will ship in their particular countries in one to two weeks. Only Hong Kong, China and Indonesia sites show "Unavailable". Friends in Hong Kong are now having their friends in other countries order the ipad2 with no problem with inventory.

Does each country have its own allotment that Apple strictly adheres to?

Ciao,

Probably the same situation as with iPhone 4: People snapped them up to resell in mainland China. When that happened, Apple stopped selling iPhones in Hong Kong for months, even as it continued to sell them elsewhere in the world.

The HK releases generally are later, but OP is asking why stock has dried up even though other locations continue to get new supplies. It's probably because Apple is trying to limit gray marketing to China while iPad 2 is relatively new and hot.

When iPhone 4 was newish, gray marketers hoarded them. You'd see people making deliveries at MTR (subway) stations, garbage bags full of iPhones. Many phones from HK ended up being sold in China at high markup. Then Apple cut off HK supplies for months.
