iTunes deleting my contacts when I sync

Hey guys,
Okay. This is getting annoying; when I first upgraded my itouch to an iPad, I started inputting my contacts by hand, but quickly (!) realized it wild be much faster to simply transfer them via iTunes. However, every time I sync my iPad, it deletes every contact but the few I input by hand! What's going on? Anyone? Help!

Unless you have a reason for not doing so, use iCloud instead. First turn off whatever you turned on in iTunes (usually in the info tab).
