Jailbreak & stock

I'm new to iPad. Can you tell me what is Jailbreak and Stock?

Jailbreaking is a term used to describe a devilish process used by some members of this forum (and elsewhere) to gain access to parts of the operating system normally closed to users. Jailbreaking allows apps to be installed that Apple have not sanctioned.

Stock simply means "out of the box" running the normal operating system. Check out our hacking section for more details.

Jailbreaking is absolutely legal, by the way, and fully supported by this forum.

A stock iPad is unmodified and a jailbroken one has been modified. This IPF thread "Jailbreaking Explained" explains jailbreaking very well (which is the reason my answer's so short).
