I have a message in my junk file that I cannot delete. When I go to the file the message is there and the screen locks up. I have to come out of mail altogether. How can I get rid of it?

These are the usual fixes when something is behaving weird on your iPad:

Restart your iPad: turn it off, wait for a few minutes, then turn it on again.

Reset it: press and hold Home and Power button until the Apple logo appears.

What else you could do:
Delete the email account with the junk mail in Settings - Mails, Contacts, Calendars; then reinstall it. Sometimes that fixes issues.

Another possibility would be to access the email account through a browser and try to get rid of the email there.

Thanks for suggestions, I' ve tried them all but no success. The screen just locks up when I access Junk, I have two more messages in there now that I can't remove. The original message is in Arabic with Moderator Edit: external link not allowed under rules quoted in the text. Guess I'll just have to leave it, damn annoying though.
Regards Dave.

Force close the app:

iOS 6: double tap Home button to reveal multitask bar, then tap one of the app icons and hold until it starts to wiggle, delete the Mail app.
iOS 7: same procedure to see multitask bar, now swipe thumbnails above app icons towards the top of the screen.

In preview, you can delete mails without opening them: slide to the left, and this appears:

Then tap "Trash". (In Trash this will be "Delete".)

To add to what J.A. suggested, one more thing. This happened to me. Some few hosts require an IMAP Path Prefix (Advanced settings in the Account definition in Mail, Contacts, Calendars). In my case, I specifically had to type in the word "INBOX" (carefully, all in uppercase) to get full access to MY host's email boxes! If you have email through a host and not through one of the "freebies", you might want to check with your hosting company to see if this is true!
