Just got an iPad2 as a birthday gift

I'm not an IT savvy person an I just got an iPad2 as a birthday gift.
I'm still exploring it's functions and is very much interested on how to
use it as GPS while traveling overseas. I tried the Maps apps but it does
not guide the directions as how dedicated GPS do. Is there anyway or
software I can buy so I can use my iPad2 to function like dedicated GPS.

Any information given regarding this is very much appreciated. Thank you.

Do you have a 3G iPad as this is the only one on which true GPS can be utilized. A free GPS app that is quite good is NavFree. They have individual apps for different countries, I'm not sure if this is going to suit you as I don't know where your travelling. Have a look anyway.
