Location gps

I recently got an ipad 2. Absolutely love it! One quick question. My location services are on but when I use an app that needs it, it says location can't be found. I have to open my map app and press my current location to get my location and works. If the iPad goes to sleep, I need to the map app thing again. Any ideas?

What iPad model is it? Wi-Fi only? 3g?

Oh, and also, this is the iPad 1 section. No big deal.
