Lock App Store?

Is there a way to make the appstore prompt for a password everytime it is opened?

There sure is.

You'll have to turn on Restrictions in order to force a password when you open the App Store app. To turn on Restrictions (if you haven't already) go to the General section in your Settings app. If you already have Restrictions on, type in your password and go to the next paragraph. If Restrictions is off - turn it on (enter a memorable 4-digit code), then...

Scroll down to the section titled "Allow Content." In there should be the line "Require Password." You can set two options - 15 minutes or immediately. Set it to immediately and you will have to enter your Apple ID password every time you enter the App Store.

Hope this helps. Holler back if you need more.

Thanks for the quick reply, i have enable restrictions it shows
Allow:
Safari - on
Camera - on
Installing Apps - on
Deleting Apps - on

Allowed Content:
Apps - All
Require Password - Immediately

Its not not prompting for a password and i made sure i totally closed the App Store (Home Twice)

Huh. Weird - cause mine doesn't ask either when I change it. Maybe you have to wait 15 minutes before trying? Not a clue why it's not working, TBH...

If it doesn't work after 15 minutes, my only other suggestion is to sent in a troubleshooting report to Apple. Sorry, but I've no idea why it doesn't work.

P.S. I'm on iOS 5.1.1 if that makes any difference (though it still doesn't work).

The restriction won't stop you from opening the App store which is what you seem to be looking for. It will force the password for your Apple ID to be required all the time when a purchase is made. Two subtly different things ;)

Turning off "Installing Apps" will remove the App Store icon altogether.

There isn't a way to password protect the opening of apps on stock IOS. It can only be done via jailbreaking AFAIK.

Ok that will work having to enter a password to install any app now what about a way to prevent them from syncing another apple id?

Sounds like you need to turn "installing apps" OFF as default and turn it on for your own use only via Restrictions...
